THE PLAYING CARDS
Miss Chance

THE RULES
Miss Chance is a great game for parites as it can be played with any number from between 4 and 12 people: everyone sits in a circle and the cards are shuffled and dealt out until only one is left. this is placed in the centre of the circle. everyone turns to the person on their left and offers all their cards except 4; a card is taken in turn and then replaced when the circle is completed and it is your turn to take a card. the aim is to create a run of 5 cards. the first person to do so shouts "Poor Miss Chance!" - and this refers to that solitary card in the middle (which will scupper planned runs). All a reference I fear to an unmarried spinster... jokes about whom were a fairly regular feature of 19th Century cards
